Company History

First Newnan Insurance Group, an independent agency, was incorporated in 1989 by William (Bill) McCalla. Bill was a 2nd generation “insurance man” who held a Master’s degree in Insurance from Georgia State University and had spent the prior decade (1979 – 1989) working in the insurance field for Great American Insurance Company, State Farm, and Alexander & Alexander, the national insurance brokerage firm. While he gathered experience from these companies, he had a vision for his own independent agency.

The doors to his independent agency opened on January 1st, 1990. After five years of rapid growth, his current location was not sufficient to service the volume of his expanded customer base.

• 1995:  Property was acquired in Thomas Crossroads, Newnan, Georgia where a new building was constructed to accommodate the growing agency.  
• 2014:  An historic building was purchased and renovated on the square in downtown Newnan to become First Newnan’s new agency home.
• 2006:  A branch office was opened in Cornelia, Georgia to service the needs of the north Georgia community. The North Georgia branch operates as “The Insurance Group.”  
• 2021:  Commercial property was purchased in Cornelia, Georgia for the expanding agency.  A new 2,000 sf office was constructed, providing a beautiful workspace for staff and a welcoming environment for customers.   

Since 1990, First Newnan Insurance Group has acquired other independent agencies, adding companies and customers to its stable base of business. Now in its +32nd year of operation, First Newnan is proud to represent some of the strongest companies in the industry, with an excellent staff to service the comprehensive insurance needs of its 5000+ account holders.

Our staff is very involved in the community. From involvement on insurance advisory boards, to youth recreation, churches, and non-profit agencies, representatives from both branches “give back” to the communities they serve by donating time and talent to various entities.
